Are You In The Right Lane?
I was driving back from the beach in the most peaceful mental state that one can manifest during Covid. The water has a way of relaxing your body so much that if you are not careful, you could fall asleep while driving home. Well, I noticed that so many cars were flying by me, and likely yelling at me for going only slightly above the speed limit. I was tempted to either change lanes or to immediately speed up but I was in the middle lane, going at a comfortable speed and happy there.
As I often do, I think about how seemingly insignificant occurrences in life transfer to the big picture. For me, it is a lesson in keeping your calm and cool both on the road and on life’s journey. The drivers who are speeding by have an agenda or a purpose that they are pursuing; know your own purpose so that you are not shaken by someone else’s journey. Stay calm. Stay in your lane. You don’t know where that person is going, or why they need to get there so quickly. You see speed, success, wins but you haven’t seen the failures, the late nights, the sacrifices; if you knew their journey or their final destination, you likely would not want to follow. Ideally, you continue to enjoy your mindful journey while celebrating those ahead of you and encouraging those behind you.
If you are on social media, you will notice so many people passing you by. You may feel stuck. You may feel overwhelmed. You may feel like an under-achiever. You start to feel anxious, and you may want to speed up. You may even want to slow down and give up. Understand that everyone is on a different journey and as long as you keep your foot on the gas, you will get to your destination. When you go at your own pace, you enjoy the journey and you also enjoy the rewards when you arrive safely.
Keep pushing forward, peacefully.
