National Poetry Month 2020: Poems of Empowerment, Sisterhood and Community
In the midst of the pandemic, our souls needed uplifting. Thankfully, National Poetry Month gave us an opportunity to experience the power of poetry to heal and to give us a respite from the harsh realities of the world. This issue of our newsletter focuses on poetry, sisterhood and community. I am pleased to feature a few of our sisters reading poems that have resonated with them. I have also updated our list of Coronavirus Resources. Continued blessings and safety to you and your family.
In the May issue, we will pick a new book for our book club, celebrate mothers and celebrate all the wonderful teachers who are helping us keep our children educated during Covid-19. The relevant links associated with this Newsletter, are provided at the bottom of this page.
The book, Island Mindfulness is a gift of peace and a treasure box of life lessons. Take a mindful moment to embrace joy — say no to negative news, negative body image and everything that keeps you from living your best life. Island Mindfulness is the peace needed to love and embrace the person that you are today."
Island Mindfulness will be available for presale on May 19, 2020. Sign up to receive updates.
COLLABORATION AND COMMUNITY
Thanks to all supporters of the art of poetry. For many years, it was difficult to get a book of poetry published but poetry books have made a comeback on Amazon, local bookstores and on Instagram. Thanks very much to my sisterhood for agreeing to read for this issue. Below is a powerful rendition of the poem, The Blueprint of your Life by Secily Wilson. All poems have been added to this poetry PLAYLIST.
If you have lost your way
Return home
Study the blueprint for your life
Remember your hopes and dreams
Rewrite the narrative that binds you
Add cherished child, abundantly blessed adult
Erase the spirit of rejection and abandonment
Set aside broken hearts and dashed hopes
Close the door on professional failures and
everything else that is weighing your soul down
Clear all the self-defeating clutter from
your mind and return to love; it is the only word
that the universe wrote next to your name
