2020 has been a year that has caught us all off guard, possibly the toughest year most of us have experienced. Social distancing in place, masks on, sanitizer in your purse and oh, don’t forget to fix your crown. Navigating the new normal can be a daunting task, especially for those of us who base our happiness on new experiences.  Some of you may have finally decided to get back into the dating pool and now you’re left feeling like this is a sign that you should forever be alone. Maybe you’re struggling with adjusting to having your kids at home virtual schooling or perhaps you’re filled with anxiety as your kids return to school because you had no other option.

What are you doing for yourself to cope with the turmoil around you? Have you been taking care of your mental health?  Anxiety is the unseen thing that everyone has but everyone is afraid to have open discussions about.  This article shares a few methods that have been proven effective in dealing with the new normal holistically.

Practice Meditation

In a world where the media infiltrates every aspect of our lives, it becomes easy to be consumed by the negativity reported to us, it becomes almost imperative that you channel your mind to absorb the positivity around you and that is why meditation is so beneficial.

Take a few minutes daily, before you turn on the news, before you take your morning shower to sit in silence and tell yourself that you will conquer your day, that you are resilient and you will overcome whatever is thrown at you that day.

Exercise

Exercise can lead to a state of euphoria. It is recommended that we at least get 30 minutes of exercise daily, run and breathe in that fresh air, take a Zumba class, sign up for that spinning class. Endorphins are released when we exercise causing a high, not only are you left feeling great but keep this up consistently and that dress in your closet will be hugging your body the right way !

Nourish Your Body

This is not only with regard to food, yes it is important that you nourish your body and try to eat as healthy as possible but it is also what you absorb from the world around you. Digesting negativity causes us to become sick and everything around us becomes clouded and filled with the gunk that we have digested. Drink your water and you’ll be too busy running to the bathroom to pay the negativity mind around you. Sometimes take a week to just flush your body of all the toxicity because your health begins internally.

Treat Yourself Well

Take a trip to the spa, get that manicure/pedicure, take that trip to the mall, order that item off of your wish list on amazon, just do something for yourself!  You are a woman and you are clothed in strength, you are strong for everyone around you, you are selfless and you keep everything moving like a well-oiled machine, that crown needs to be shined and polished sometimes.

Focus on the Positive

We may be plagued with worry and often nothing seems to be going according to plan, at least not according to our plans…breathe, we cannot control everything. Focus on how close you are to reaching your goals, you may have found a budding new relationship, you may have hit a new personal best, your business may be taking off or you’re able to come home to warm hugs from your children. These are all things that provide us with a sense of joy. In the midst of everything falling apart learn to appreciate what remains unaffected.

Pray

I left this one for last, not because I consider it least important but because at the end of each day, give your worries and your stresses to God. You may not believe in God, you may serve a different higher power but essentially, we all believe in something. As soon as you lay your head down at night, give thanks that you have conquered your day, that you overcame the challenges on your path and that you have breath in your lungs.

These are all tried and tested methods that are guaranteed to work as we sometimes stumble through our day to day. May we be more forgiving when we don’t have the perfect day, or we don’t make it through our to do list for the day. May we be consistent in our journey to better ourselves and may we remember the only time we have truly failed ourselves are the days we haven’t tried.
